Grape Salad with Mint

Hiya pals!  The sun had been shining quite a bit here in rainy Portland Oregon.  It is supposed to be in the 80s on Thursday.  Pretty exciting.  Spring is finally here and with that lighter food.  One of the first dishes I ever made all by myself when I was a kid was a fruit salad.  Whenever we went to visit my Gram she would send me out to the garden to pick strawberries and I would cut up fruit with a plastic knife.  Sadly I am now allergic strawberries but I still have a special place in my heart for a fruit salad!  This one is a bit more mature with addition of mint, probably my favorite herb.  My dads family grows it and the smell always makes me think of family.  I hope I can get my mom's seal of approval on this dish!  Happy Mother's Day Mom!

This salad is great with the different kinds of grapes but you could any fruit you like.  Each bite has a little bit of everything.  Sweet and tart.

Mother's Day Menu

Are you ready for Mother's Day yet? Have you even started thinking about it? Well this year Mother's Day is on Sunday May 11th, and in honor of all of our beautiful mothers, we have decided to do another theme week! This one is kicking off today, with our Mother's Day menu, so you can know what to look forward to in the upcoming weeks, and finishes up on May 9th, with the final post coming from Warren.

Another exciting thing to mention is that we are having our very first guest poster on Blog To Taste! So look out for the flourless chocolate cake that will be posted on next Monday.

We are changing a few things around here at BTT, so check back in soon, and let us know what you think!

A review: Earl of Sandwich in Anaheim, CA

The spot, Earl of Sandwich, is easily the cheapest place you can eat in Downtown Disney.  And it was quite yummy!  At least my sandwich was... unfortunately, my friend's sandwich was pretty much burned to a crisp.  So if that happens to you, be sure to return it.  My friend was just too polite and suffered.

My Kitchen Garden: Herbs Galore!

One of my favorite things about late spring/summer is rejuvenating my garden. In the Pacific Northwest, we don't lose the threat of frost until May, but some of us just can't wait and take the risk in mid-late April. After this cold and snowy winter, I am glad to see that most of my perennials survived.

My new garden experiment for this year, though, is to try more herbs. In an effort to make my food more flavorful and homegrown, I chose a variety of herbs that I love to use in cooking. Follow me, foodie friends, as I take you on a tour of my kitchen garden!

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter everyone! Today is a day to enjoy family and food and relax all around. Also, you can totally color some eggs which is what Holly, Sarah, Rosie and Warren did. Warren really believes in coloring Easter eggs. In fact, he probably gets a little into it. Enjoy the pictures!

Spring Splash Sangria

A few years ago, I took a stab at becoming a wine drinker. You see, in my mind, wine is what a sophisticated lady of my age is supposed to drink, I have many friends that like wine, and i am inundated with wine drinking memes on the old FB daily. So I went out and bought a few bottles, asked my friends for their suggestions and tried to get a taste for wine.

Deviled Eggs 3 Ways

Hiya pals!  Easter is right around the corner.  When I was a kid (and every year since...), I loved dying eggs!  I also loved making stuff with the colorful hard boiled eggs.  One of the first things I remember making on my own as a kid was deviled eggs.  Not a lot of knife skills needed and mixing was fun.

Hard boiled eggs were a staple for me when I first stopped being a vegan.  They were easy to have on hand to add to salads or eat as a snack.  I have a nifty machine (this one is way fancier than mine is, but close) that makes perfect hard boiled eggs.  Here is a guide if you need to cook them on the stove.

Welcome to the Peep Show!

Hello foodie friends! Welcome to the week leading up to Easter. I am so excited to share with you this post of "peep"-tacular proportions! I have always loved Peeps. In fact, it is my all time favorite candy. I know, I know, some people think these marshmallow treats are disgusting, but is there anything cuter, fluffier or tastier?! I love Peeps so much that I even have a cute Peep pillow with my name on it!

The biggest problem that I have with Peeps is that I get bored just eating them by the sleeve, so I thought this Easter I would give you a Peep Show (3 Ways to Serve Peeps).

Sweet Ham and Rolls for Easter Dinner

Nothing says Easter dinner like a huge ham, and no one does amazing food delivered to my door like Schwan's! So, I married these two ideas into a decadently delicious feast fit for king. I also baked up a huge batch of sweet dinner rolls make perfect little sandwiched with my divine meat.

First, I will tell you about the ham. I purchased Schwan's Sliced Spiral Bone-in Hal Ham. Sorry guys, but it is currently sold out. Hopefully they will get more, but who knows.

I will rate my experience with it in four categories: Flavor, Ease of Preparation, Bang for the Buck, and Leftover Versatility.

Vegan Cheeze Review

Happy Friday foodie friends! Today the weather is truly representative of spring, it was sunny enough to convince me to wear capris, but don't ya know as soon as I left the house the cloud cover showed up and made we wish for a down jacket.
Oh anyway, the weather really has nothing to do with this post, so onward we go. Recently I have tried two different vegan "cheezes'. I guess they call these cheeze with a Z just so that you can tell that it is not cheese in any way, shape or form. Whatever, here I am, a girl who cannot eat cheese, but misses the bygone days of 7-11 nachos and alfredo sauce. Thus, I took a trip down to my local Whole Foods store, and picked up a couple of jars  of vegan cheeze. Both jars were about 6 bucks each, so they are not cheap. And it is for that reason that I am writing this review to share what I thought about each jar.

Roasted Red Cabbage

Hiya pals!  Look at me mixing it up and posting a veggie recipe.  April Fools!  Ok so its a day late but still hilarious.  I go through food obsessions where for weeks at a time all I want to eat is a certain dish.  The current obsession is red cabbage and my fave way to eat it is roasted, almost burnt!  Here is how I make it.
