Apple Garlic Chicken Pizza with a Basil Crust Recipe

And so we meet again, foodie friends! If you've been keeping up with our social media this week, we have been all over the pizza game. I've been looking at pictures of pizza on Instagram, Pinterest and Twitter so much lately, that I knew I was going to make a pizza once Holly told me she was going to make a fruit pizza. This post is so inspired by different points in my life (a really fun job at Papa Murphy's in high school, a trip to San Francisco, and a love for my Pampered Chef pizza stone), and I can't help but obsess about the result.

What You'll Need

For the Crust
• 2 cups all purpose flour
• 1 cup hot water
• 1/3 cup lightly dried basil (you can pick this up at any grocery store)
• 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
• 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
• 1/2 teaspoon table salt

Toppings & Sauce (see above pic)
Chicken, cubed and sautéed
• Bacon, cooked and chopped
Honey Crisp Apples, sliced thinly
Asiago Cheese
Mozzarella Cheese
• Red Onion
• Minced Garlic
• Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Whip it Up

Start by making the crust. I generally make the dough the night before, but if you don't, just let it rise for at least an hour before baking. In a large mixing bowl dissolve the yeast in the hot water. Once it's dissolved, add in the garlic and table salts, stir. After stirring, put the flour in the wet mixture. Mix on medium-low speed for about one minute. Finally, add in the basil and mix until a ball starts to form.

Once the ball has formed, pinch into a tight ball. Put it in a bowl and then brush with olive oil. Cover with plastic wrap.

While the dough is setting, prepare your toppings. I cooked up my bacon, chicken and shredded my Asiago cheese. At this point, I covered and put everything in the fridge to cook the next night.

If you refrigerated your dough, like I did, pull it out about a half hour before you start baking. Preheat the oven to 450˚. Once you're ready, roll out, and if you're feeling brave (or just want to have fun) toss the dough to get it to flatten out.

Before putting the dough on the pizza stone, cover with a light layer of olive oil. Once oiled, place the dough on the stone. Scoop three tablespoons of minced garlic and then a generous amount of olive oil. Brush across the entire dough. This is your sauce.

Once you've placed the sauce, stack ingredients in this order (trust me): mozzarella, apples, chicken, bacon, onion, asiago. Do you see how gorgeous that looks above?!

Bake in the oven for 20 minutes. You'll know it's ready when the crust is nice and golden brown. Serve hot, cold or as leftovers for lunch the next day. You'll thank me later.

Side note: you could easily do a light
