Apple Pie Applesauce Recipe

Happy Hump Day foodie friends! It's one of the best times of the year when it comes to food as far as I'm concerned. I love good, hearty home cooking. Things that cook all day in a crockpot, rich smells that permeate the home, a feeling of love cooked in. Ahhh, I'm seriously obsessed.

This week I undertook a challenge. As you saw last time, I'm always inspired by what other people are making. Pinterest is a great source of crockpot foods - oatmeals, soups, drinks, and of course...applesauce. So why can't I?
I decided to make applesauce in my crockpot. Most of the recipes that I read online suggested a cook on high for 4-5 hours, but I like a slow cook while I'm at work; it's just more convenient. I put everything together, set it and forget it. All together it cooked for 12 hours while I was away.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED
5 Large Honey Crisp Apples
3 Caramel cubes
1 cup water
1/4 cup sugar
3 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp nutmeg
Lemon juice, *just a squirt*
Honey

WHIP IT UP!
Start by coring, peeling and cubing up the apples. I'm not a fan of this process, and I'm pretty lazy when it comes to the process. Good news is that just like potatoes, you don't have to peel it 100%. I just took a paring knife and cut it close (see below).

Once you've cubed up the apples, toss everything into the crockpot and you are G2G (good to go if you don't speak text). Cook on low all day.

After it's been in the crockpot all day, stir it together, take a potato masher and mash it all up. This step is necessary and as and added bonus it helps release aggression ☺

At this point you can cool it, then refrigerate it, or you can serve it both. As someone who tried both (*you're welcome!!!*), it is so good both ways. Also because this is just as good as apple pie, you could easily serve this with a touch of ice cream, whip cream or for a fun breakfast serve over oatmeal!
