Fajita Seasoning Mix Recipe

Hola again amigos! I am still sharing recipes from out blogcation Fiesta that we threw, and I have been waiting to move on from guacamole and onto fajitas! This week I am sharing the fajita seasoning mix, and next week you'll get the full fajita recipe. So just wait, it will be worth it! (Update: Here is the full fajita recipe, it's awesome!)

Seasoning mixes are such easy recipes to share that I almost feel bad doing it- they are just so basic. But I can't help myself, I've been on this path to never have to buy seasoning mixes again and I think there are others out there, just like me. Cheap, and paranoid about ingredients.

The ingredients to a fajita seasoning are a little different than a taco seasoning (the link goes to our Parking Lot Chip Dip recipe where I shared my fave taco potion, and as a bonus, there is a funny story as inspiration for the dip). Fajita seasoning is a little bit tangier and sweeter, plus you add cornstarch to make it a little bit thicker, and kind of saucy. Of course measuring is always made easier when you have a set of adorable rainbow measuring spoons. Trust me on this one.

Homemade seasonings are so easy to make- try it and I bet you'll agree!

Fajita Seasoning Mix
The fajita seasoning is sweet, tangy, smokey and spicy. It is also super easy to make at home, with no need for a MSG heavy mix from the store. Save money, and time by whipping up a batch of this seasoning to keep on hand.
Ingredients
  • 8 parts chili powder
  • 4 parts paprika
  • 4 parts onion powder
  • 3 parts garlic powder
  • 3 parts cumin, smoked
  • 1 part cayenne
  • 1 part sugar, granulated
  • 4 parts salt
  • 4 parts corn starch
  • 2 parts black pepper, fresh ground
Instructions
Measure loosely, mix ingredients in bowl or in jar. Use 5 tablespoons of seasoning per pound of chicken.

I super recommend using jars just like the ones I used, they are cute and functional, yay!
